Prisma Community Care

Founded in 1990 as Phoenix Body Positive and later known as the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS, Prisma Community Care was established by and for individuals living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, including their families and partners. The organization eventually began doing business as the Southwest Center before adopting its current name, Prisma Community Care, on January 1, 2025. Their mission is, “We provide affirming and inclusive services to promote well-being and advance health equity for diverse communities and all those seeking compassionate care – especially people of color, 2SLGBTQIA+ and Queer individuals, and those affected by HIV.”

With 34 years of dedicated service, Prisma Community Care has evolved into a comprehensive health and wellness clinic located in the heart of downtown Phoenix. Today, they offer a wide range of services, including primary care, mental health services, HIV/STI testing and treatment, reproductive healthcare, and HIV prevention and management.

Our clinic at Prisma Community Care was one of Sonoran University of Health Sciences’ first community medicine programs.

Integrative Healthcare Services

Through the partnership between Sage Foundation for Health, Sonoran University of Health Sciences, and Prisma Community Care, patients have access to complementary healthcare services designed to support overall wellbeing and quality of life.
Student clinicians work alongside healthcare professionals to provide supportive services that may include:

  • Lifestyle and wellness counseling
  • Acupuncture treatments
  • Physical medicine therapies
  • Cupping therapy
  • Nutrition and self-care education
  • Health coaching and preventive wellness support

These services complement the comprehensive healthcare offered through Prisma Community Care and help patients take an active role in managing their health

Expanding Access to Inclusive Healthcare

For more than three decades, Prisma Community Care has provided services that address important healthcare needs within the community. The partnership with Sonoran University and Sage Foundation expands those services by introducing integrative healthcare approaches that support patients physically, emotionally, and socially.

Patients benefit from access to additional wellness resources, while student clinicians gain valuable experience serving diverse populations and working in collaborative healthcare environments. This partnership strengthens healthcare access today while preparing future healthcare professionals to provide culturally informed and patient-centered care.

Preparing Future Healthcare Leaders

Prisma Community Care serves as an important clinical training site for students from Sonoran University’s College of Naturopathic Medicine. Under faculty supervision, student clinicians learn to work within multidisciplinary healthcare teams and support patients from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences.

This hands-on experience helps students develop clinical skills, cultural competence, and a deeper understanding of community-based healthcare delivery.

“I love that when I walk through the door, I’m greeted by my name- I’m not just another patient!”
